Get a domain
EveryApp needs a domain on Cloudflare. Buy one there, or bring one you already own.
Your Gateway and apps live under one address on your domain, like apps.yourcompany.com.
Don't want to touch the domain your website and email run on? Buy a new domain just for your apps; it takes a minute. Using a domain you already own means changing its nameservers where you bought it, so that Cloudflare serves its DNS. Your website and email keep working when step 4 below copies their records first.
Buy a new domain
The quickest way. It's ready in under a minute.
- Open Register domains in the Cloudflare dashboard.
- Search for a name and select Purchase next to the one you want.
- Fill in your contact and payment details, then select Complete purchase.
With Workers Paid, a .dev or .app domain costs $1 for the first year. After that it renews at $12.20 a year for .dev and $14.20 for .app.
Use a domain you already own
If you bought it elsewhere, like GoDaddy or Namecheap, keep it there and point it at Cloudflare.
- In the Cloudflare dashboard, open Domains and select Onboard a domain.
- Enter your domain without
www(for exampleyourcompany.com) and continue. - Choose the Free plan.
- Cloudflare copies your existing DNS records. Check that your website and email records are in the list, then continue.
- Cloudflare shows you two nameservers. Sign in where you bought the domain, find its nameserver settings, and replace the nameservers there with Cloudflare's two.
- Wait for Cloudflare's email saying your domain is active. This usually takes under an hour, and at most a day.
If you use email on this domain (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or similar), make sure its records were copied in step 4 before you change the nameservers. Otherwise your email stops arriving.
You don't touch DNS
EveryApp creates the DNS records and HTTPS certificates it needs. A new address usually starts working within five minutes, up to ten.
If something already uses the address, setup stops instead of replacing it. Delete that record in Cloudflare (your domain, then DNS) or choose another address.
Choosing your address
Setup suggests apps.yourcompany.com, but any name under your domain works, like tools.yourcompany.com. Apps go one level below it: todo.tools.yourcompany.com.
Pick carefully. The Gateway can't move once it's set up. To start again at another address, remove everything first.
