AI models
Set one key so every app that needs a chat model works, and choose which provider and model your Gateway uses.
Some apps need "a chat model" and don't care which company runs it: Agentic Inbox drafts replies, OpenCRM researches a company. They take your Gateway's default model. You set up one provider once, and every such app uses it, so four apps need one key, not four.
Which provider the Gateway picks
If you haven't chosen, the Gateway uses the first provider on this list whose key is set: OpenRouter, Workers AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Mistral, Gemini.
OpenRouter is first because it is one key for many models, and every answer comes back with its price, so the Usage page can show dollars. Workers AI is second because it needs no account with a model company at all, only your Cloudflare account. Its models are weaker.
Set one key
In your every-app folder:
pnpm everyapp secret set OPENROUTER_API_KEYOr run pnpm everyapp configure <app> for an app that shows Needs setup: it asks for the one key that app needs. The value isn't shown as you type.
Choose a provider or model
To use a different provider, or a specific model:
pnpm everyapp ai default openrouter/anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5
pnpm everyapp ai default groqThe provider is the part before the first slash, the model is what follows. To go back to the list above:
pnpm everyapp ai default offYou can also choose in Manage workspace, then Usage, then AI default.
See what is in use
pnpm everyapp ai showIt prints the provider and model the default resolves to now, and why. Usage shows the calls each provider and each model has served.
Cloudflare AI Gateway
Cloudflare AI Gateway is Cloudflare's proxy for model calls, with logs, caching and limits. It is not a model provider: it has no models of its own, so it still needs a provider's key behind it. That is why it is never "the default" by itself.
pnpm everyapp ai gateway onThis puts it in front of every model call your Gateway makes. Your provider keys stay yours and no app changes. pnpm everyapp ai gateway off takes it out again. The pair that works best is OpenRouter through AI Gateway: one key, plus Cloudflare's logs and limits.
An app that needs one provider
Some apps need one particular provider, not just any model. Such an app lists that provider and asks for its key, and it ignores the default. Agentic Inbox and OpenCRM take the default.
